How to Find Hospitals That Accept Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY

Quick answer: To find hospitals that accept Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, use the hospital search on the official PM-JAY website, call the PM-JAY helpline on 14555, or ask at a Common Service Centre. Then check that the hospital is empanelled for the specific treatment you need, not just for PM-JAY in general, and confirm at its Arogya Mitra desk before you travel.

PM-JAY covers eligible families for up to 5 lakh rupees per family per year for listed hospitalisation packages at empanelled public and private hospitals. Because the scheme is portable across India, you can also look for hospitals in other states.

Three ways to find empanelled hospitals

Check the specialty, not just the hospital

A hospital may be empanelled under PM-JAY for some specialties but not others. A hospital accepting Ayushman cards for general surgery may not be empanelled for cancer care or cardiac surgery. Always confirm the hospital is empanelled for the treatment your doctor has advised.

Before you go

  1. Confirm your eligibility and card status on the official beneficiary portal.
  2. Shortlist hospitals using the official search.
  3. Call the hospital and ask for the Arogya Mitra or PM-JAY desk to confirm your treatment is covered there.
  4. Carry your Ayushman card, Aadhaar or other ID, and all medical reports and referral letters.
  5. Budget for travel, stay and food, which the scheme does not cover.

Why a hospital might say no

  • The hospital is not empanelled for the specialty you need.
  • Your eligibility could not be verified, for example because of an ID mismatch.
  • The treatment you need is not one of the scheme’s packages.
  • Documents such as referral letters or reports are missing.

Ask the Arogya Mitra desk to explain the exact reason. If you believe you are being wrongly refused, call 14555 to raise a grievance. Our guide on checking whether your treatment is covered under Ayushman Bharat explains how packages work.

Using the hospital search well

When you search for empanelled hospitals, filter by your state and district first, then by specialty. Note two or three suitable hospitals rather than one, because availability and waiting times vary. Save the hospital name, address and phone number, and write down the specialty you need so you can ask for it clearly when you call.

What to say when you call a hospital

  1. Say you are a PM-JAY beneficiary and give the patient’s name as on the Ayushman card.
  2. Describe the diagnosis and the treatment your doctor has advised.
  3. Ask whether the hospital is empanelled under PM-JAY for that specific treatment.
  4. Ask which documents to bring and whether you need a referral.
  5. Ask for the Arogya Mitra desk’s direct number for follow-up.

Government and private hospitals

Both government and private hospitals can be empanelled. Government hospitals may have longer waits but broad empanelment; private hospitals may offer quicker admission for some treatments but may be empanelled only for certain specialties. Choose based on the treatment you need, how urgent it is and how far you can travel.

If the nearest suitable hospital is in another state, PM-JAY portability means you can still use your card there; see using your Ayushman card in another state.

How NEIMHAANS helps

NEIMHAANS is a non-clinical healthcare concierge that has helped families travelling for treatment since 2007. We cannot approve or guarantee PM-JAY coverage; that decision rests with the scheme and the hospital. See our services.
